My writing desk

Writing TableWriting TableBack in the spring my dad built a pretty neat little knock-down writing desk. It was something that could be built inexpensively, looked nice, and was highly portable. I decided that I wanted something similar for my own desk in my office, instead of the particle board desk that I bought when I was in college.

I put this together over the weekend. In the process of doing it I learned a few things:

  1. I don't know beans about joining table legs.
  2. My underpowered table saw with the tilting table surface is somewhat sub-optimal for building furniture.
  3. The blade on my miter saw needs sharpening after building a deck last fall.

It was an enjoyable project though, and I'm very pleased with the way the table looks.

Unfortunately right after I took the photo above, two of the legs suffered catastrophic failure. Luckily I had been researching better ways to attach the legs earlier in the day. The items I identified as different were the points of failure, so I'll rework the attachment this week, using the new and hopefully stronger joint. I'll post pictures as I work.
